Diesel price protection, explained for truck stops and diners
When diesel spikes, drivers can have less cash left for a meal, a shower or a wash. Here’s price protection in plain words, and a free event you can host.

A spike hits the drivers who stop with you

Owner-operators pay for their own diesel. At Iowa 80, the big truck stop off I-80, one driver paid $809 for a single fill-up, The Guardian reported in May.
And that can reach your counter

Drivers cutting back said snacks and hot food were what they cut most. A diesel spike can squeeze that cash even more.
What protection is, in plain words
A driver picks a cap: the most they want to pay a gallon. They pay a small fee per gallon up front.
If what they pay averages above the cap over the period, Hedjee pays them the difference. They owe nothing back.
| Compared | No protectionExample: diesel jumps $1 over the cap | With HedjeeSame jump, 5¢ fee a gallon |
|---|---|---|
| Diesel goes up | $1 a gallon | $1 a gallon |
| Paid back | Nothing | $1 a gallon, after the period ends |
| The driver’s extra cost | $1 a gallon | 5¢ a gallon: the fee |

It works beside what drivers use now
Big fleets like Sysco lock in the price of much of their diesel ahead of time. Hedjee brings the same kind of protection to drivers and fleets of any size, even one truck.
| Compared | What it does | With Hedjee |
|---|---|---|
| Fuel surcharge | Helps offset a rise. Not meant to cover the whole fuel bill. | Keep it. Hedjee pays on top of it. |
| Fuel card | Pays at the pump and can bring discounts. | Keep it. Same card, same stations. |
| Loyalty points | Points for free showers and discounts help drivers pick a stop. | Keep them. Same stops, same stations. |
| Futures and swaps | Big companies set a price ahead. If diesel falls, they can owe money. | The same kind of protection, any size. Nothing owed back. |
